Friday night we had the privilege of attending Joy Prom 2010, a spectacular event at which individuals with special needs are the VIP guests. Approximately 250 guests were hosted, with about 700-800 total attendees, including hosts/hostesses, volunteer "paparazzi," other volunteers, and guest caregivers and parents. The magnitude of this event is simply amazing; our tiny LifeSong Church could never do it without the generous participation of so many well-known Las Vegas companies and organizers. As a special bonus, mission teams from First Baptist Church of Henderson, KY and Fruit Cove Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL (led by Jeremy Todd, who blogged about it here) traveled to Las Vegas to help for the whole week. Sam and I got to assist in the Caregiver Hospitality Room, where family members and caregivers could relax with refreshments if they needed a break from watching the festivities. We met so many wonderful people! Steve ran around as a "go-fer"; at such a glitzy event, you never know what will happen! Even Sam got dressed up (oops! I just noticed the lipstick kiss on his forehead, courtesy of Miss Vickie). Thanks to Grandma Janzen for the handsome outfit, and thanks to Scott Roeben, head paparazzo, for taking time to snap a picture for us.
